Puerto Rico and the Rest of Us Need Resilient Grids
This is Frank Gaffney with the Secure Freedom Minute.
Mother Nature has devastated Puerto Rico. Its present condition –and the prospect of months without electricity – is a cautionary tale for the rest of us.
The electric grid most Americans depend upon for the necessities of life is vulnerable to similar kinds of catastrophic failures in the face of intense solar storms and/or enemy action. We’re overdue for severe space weather. And North Korea’s leader says he thinks we’re at war and his regime has specifically threatened our grid. It is no more protected against such perils than Puerto Rico’s was against hurricanes.
America’s Caribbean territories are lucky to have the rest of us to help them rebuild. In so doing, we must make sure the grids there and on the mainland are both made resilient. After all, if ours is taken down, no one is likely to come to the rescue.
This is Frank Gaffney.
