Needed - A Benghazigate Select Committee

The New York Times claimed Saturday that extensive interviews on the ground in Benghazi proved that the murderous attack on U.S. facilities there on September 11, 2012 were mounted by attackers who had no ties to al Qaeda and were “largely” motivated by a YouTube video.This report was immediately touted as vindication of the Obama administration’s initial party line, and damning to congressional Republicans and others who disputed it.It just ain’t so. Lawmakers of both parties, Fox News and others have now confirmed that shariah-motivated jihadists who share al Qaeda’s goals and claim to be its affiliates conducted the attack in a planned and disciplined fashion – not as a spontaneous mob. One thing is clear: We need a Benghazigate select committee to get the truth out, once and for all.

Farewell to Frank Wolf

Yesterday, an extraordinary public servant announced that he would be retiring next year from Congress. Inevitably, the political junkies are mulling the implications of Representative Frank Wolf’s departure for the next election. I am more worried about what it will mean to lose a man who has long been a singular watchman on the wall in the federal legislature.Mr. Wolf has distinguished himself as a champion of liberty. During three decades on Capitol Hill, Mr. Wolf has been able to translate into action his principled and courageous stands against freedom’s enemies, foreign and domestic. Notably, Frank Wolf has tirelessly sought accountability for the Benghazigate scandal. Here’s hoping that Mr. Wolf’s colleagues will honor the coming close of his exemplary service by creating the select investigatory committee that he knows is needed.

It’s been seven months since jihadists attacked U.S. facilities in Benghazi, Libya. Ambassador Chris Stevens and three other Americans were killed, and many more badly injured. And that is pretty much all we know for sure about an incident that has – let’s face it – been subjected to the most comprehensive, and successful, cover-up in modern political history.
Now, seven hundred heroic special operations veterans have written an open letter to Congress calling for the creation of a new investigative committee to learn the truth. They want to know, in particular, why warriors like them weren’t allowed to aid our countrymen in their hour of need.

The Unaccountability of Hillary Clinton

This is Frank Gaffney with the Secure Freedom Minute.
Something extraordinary happened yesterday in Washington, D.C.  Four senior State Department officials actually took responsibility for failures that occurred on their watch prior to, during and after the murderous attack in Benghazi last September 11th.   It’s heartening to see some actual accountability following a damning after-action review.
But wait.  As is more typically the case in official Washington circles, others who should also be held accountable are not accepting responsibility, especially for the larger policy failure of engaging murderous Islamists that spawned, among other things, the Benghazi debacle.
One such person is Secretary of State Hillary Clinton.  She recently said “the buck stops with me.” Yet she is sending her subordinates to Capitol Hill today and making implausible medical excuses for her unavailability.  All the more reason for holding Hillary accountable.

The Unaccountability Report

The final results of the 2012 election are now in: The investigation into the events before, during and after the September 11th terrorist attack on U.S. facilities in Libya has confirmed Barack Obama is the winner.
Yes, the so-called Accountability Report found numerous failures on the part of his administration with respect to security and other practices. But no one is being held accountable.
More importantly, even before it was completed, the report had served its principal purpose by allowing hard questions that might have cost Mr. Obama his reelection to be deferred until after it was over.
Another win for President Obama is the report’s narrow focus on the Benghazi episode, neglecting altogether the real failure – his policy of engaging Islamists of which it was but one, tragic example.

Hillary Can't Hide

This is Frank Gaffney with the Secure Freedom Minute.
All signs now point to Hillary Clinton running for president in 2016. So perhaps it was not coincidental that last week, a case of stomach flu kept her from joining Islamists in London to negotiate restrictions on Americans' freedom of expression.
Then, we are told, she got dehydrated, fainted and suffered a concussion. Now she can't make her scheduled Capitol Hill appearances on Thursday to testify about the attack on American facilities in Benghazi last September 11th. As a practical matter, that likely means she will be a former Secretary of State before she provides such testimony - if at all.
Hillary Clinton may be able briefly to run but she cannot permanently hide from her involvement in policies aimed at "engaging" Islamists that restrict our constitutional freedom of speech and contributed to Benghazigate.
