No to Samantha Power

The United Nations has long been a cesspool of hostility towards our country, Israel and freedom more generally. It's dominated by those who promote and protect our enemies' interests, while undermining ours. Worse yet, we pay much of the UN's budget.
Presidents of both parties have responded to this travesty by sending the UN ambassadors who unapologetically challenged that agenda. Daniel Patrick Moynihan, Jeane Kirkpatrick and John Bolton were proud of our country, and tirelessly championed its values.
President Obama wants Samantha Power to represent us. She's said we must apologize as post-World War II Germans did for the Nazis, due to the "crimes committed, sponsored, or permitted by the United States."
We need an American patriot at the UN, not someone who will share - and justify - its rabid anti-Americanism.

Repudiate Erdogan

President Obama calls Turkish Prime Minister Recep Erdogan one of his best friends among foreign leaders. He has touted Erdogan's efforts to Islamicize Turkey's secular constitution as a model for other Muslim nations.
And he ignores Erdogan's support for the terrorist group Hamas, and his continuing hostility towards Israel.
Such indulgent sentiments towards an unapologetic Islamist are now being repaid by Erdogan with the contempt they deserve. His regime is using increasingly violent techniques to suppress demonstrations across Turkey. To date, such repression has only intensified the opposition to Erdogan and his Islamist agenda.
This reprehensible behavior affords President Obama an opportunity to do what he should have done long before: Disassociate himself and America from Erdogan's radical program - and make clear that its continued pursuit will harm U.S.-Turkish relations.

The revelation that the super-secret National Security Agency has been vacuuming up so-called meta-data from foreign and American communications has lots of us in a full-scale flail.
The libertarian Right denounces it as an unacceptable abuse of government power. Even the Left that normally, reflexively supports whatever President Obama does is up in arms.
But is this effort to detect and counter patterns of behavior that may be associated with terrorists and their plots legitimate and necessary? All three branches of government agree it is legal and required - provided Team Obama is not doing as it has elsewhere: namely, abusing its powers for political purposes.
It would be better to focus counterterrorism efforts against those jihadists seeking our destruction. Until then, this metadata mining is likely to be necessary.

President Obama's administration has been rocked in recent weeks by a series of scandals. Its stonewalling about Benghazigate, abuses of power by the IRS and controversial probes of the media are alienating the public and infuriating the Congress.
Now comes evidence of perhaps the most serious scandal to date. Some have dubbed it "Islamistgate" as it involves the systematic and highly successful penetration of the U.S. government by Muslim Brotherhood and like-minded enemies of this country.
Counterterrorism expert Patrick Poole just published the definitive expose on the subject in the Middle East Review of International Affairs. He documents large numbers of Islamists inside the ranks of Team Obama - and their subversive influence on American policy.
We must root out such operatives, before they can do even more serious damage to our security.

Tiananmen Square

On the eve of an extraordinary summit this week between President Obama and his new Chinese counterpart, we have occasion to remember the anniversary of an incident that calls to mind the true - and terrible - nature of the People's Republic of China.
Twenty-four years ago, elements of the People's Liberation Army massacred thousands of their countrymen and women in Tiananmen Square. The violence was unleashed not only to suppress those peacefully demonstrating for greater freedom - complete with a handmade replica of the Statue of Liberty.
It also sent a message to everyone else in China that their communist overlords would never tolerate such changes. Notwithstanding this week's diplomatic niceties, the anniversary reminds us that a regime that treats its people so badly cannot be relied upon to behave well towards ours.

Rape in the Ranks

The nation's top uniformed officer will be subjected to harsh questioning today as legislators hector him over evidence of an epidemic of sexual assaults in the armed forces. It is predictable that some of the harshest critics will be those who have contributed the most to this breakdown of discipline - and the threat it poses to our military.
There is no excuse for rapes and other sexual assaults among those in uniform. But Members of Congress share responsibility with President Obama for creating conditions conducive to such behavior. They have, in the name of "equality," allowed military women into positions with little or no privacy and effectively encouraged homosexuality in the ranks.
We are breaking the only military we have. We must reverse such trends if we expect it to protect us.
