Turkey is No Friend
This is Frank Gaffney with the Secure Freedom Minute.
For decades, the Eastern Mediterranean nation of Turkey has been an important strategic ally of the United States. Situated at the juncture of Europe, Central Asia and the Middle East, the Turks played a particularly critical role in defending the Free World during the Cold War.
Ten years ago, however, an Islamist named Recep Erdogan was elected prime minister and started what his friend, President Obama, would call a “fundamental transformation” of Turkey. Erdogan has mutated his country into one in which the repressive Islamic doctrine of shariah has steadily and insidiously supplanted democratic freedom.
Turkey has also ceased to be a reliable Western ally. Most recently, it helped the Iranian mullahs destroy an Israeli spy network providing vital intelligence on Iran’s nuclear weapons program. With friends like Recep Erdogan, who needs enemies?
