Sharon's Greatest Mistake
Former Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon is back in the news. He has been in a comma for years and now seems to be slipping towards death. His deteriorating condition calls to mind what may be his most troublesome legacy.
In 2005, Sharon unilaterally – and in some cases forcibly – ended any Jewish presence in the Gaza Strip. He hoped thereby to improve the prospects for peace with the Palestinians and ease international criticism of the Jewish State.
It has done neither. Instead, Israel faces Gazastan, a toxic terror state controlled by the jihadists of Hamas committed to Israel’s destruction.
Yet, Secretary of State John Kerry is determined now to force Israel to repeat this disastrous experiment in the West Bank. The Israelis and their friends must remember Sharon, and say “No.”
