Owning Broken Redlines

This is Frank Gaffney with the Secure Freedom Minute.
President Obama declared that the use of chemical weapons in Syria would be a "redline," precipitating unspecified but severe consequences.  Now, faced with evidence that such use has taken place, Mr. Obama confronts the prospect that, to paraphrase Colin Powell, they broke it, we own it.
An even larger problem is looming.  The London Daily Telegraph reports that a battle is now raging near Aleppo for control of one of the Syrian government's chemical weapons plants.  There is the distinct prospect that al Qaeda jihadists will prevail and acquire its deadly contents.
Unfortunately, short of forcibly occupying Syria, there is no sure way of preventing further use and proliferation of these weapons.  Lesser military options may simply provide additional pretexts for their use against us.  So, perhaps, will a violated redline.

No Time to Disarm

This is Frank Gaffney with the Secure Freedom Minute.
The American people have recently been violently reminded that the United States faces a growing array of threats - from global jihadists' pressure-cooker bombs to North Korea's nuclear missiles.  Incredibly, the Obama administration seems to think this is a good time to be cutting our nuclear deterrent and negotiating away our missile defenses.
Congressman Mike Rogers of Alabama oversees these programs in the House of Representatives.  He is alarmed  by secret deals Team Obama is trying to reach with the Russians and Chinese that would leave us vulnerable to missile attack.  And he says the President is poised to take further steps to dismantle our nuclear arsenal, perhaps unilaterally.
Representative Rogers wants Congress to be briefed on these potentially disastrous initiatives - before they are finalized, not after.  So should the rest of us.

A Marine's Warning

The nation’s top Marine is speaking truth to power.  The question is, will the powerful listen?
Last week, Commandant James Amos told Congress that his Marines risk being unprepared to fight properly even one major war after the defense budget cuts now in the works take full effect.
Yesterday, the four-star general warned in congressional testimony against the sentiment that seems to be driving such cuts, and the resulting hollowing-out of the U.S. military.  He called it “neo-isolationism” and observed that it is curtailing our ability to project power in defense of our far-flung interests and allies.  He said “I don’t think that’s good for America, I don’t think that’s good for global stability.”
Isolationism was a bad idea in the past.  It is a perilous one in today’s dangerous world.

Defining Terrorists

This is Frank Gaffney with the Secure Freedom Minute.
We are told that the two men responsible for bombing the Boston Marathon have no ties to terrorist organizations.  But the evidence continues to accumulate that the Tsarnaev brothers were inspired to engage in their acts of terror by the same thing that impels the vast majority of the world's terrorist organizations - namely, the supremacist Islamic doctrine called shariah.
The younger Tsarnaev has told investigators that religious fervor prompted the brothers' attacks.  And USA Today exposed their mosque, the Islamic Society of Boston, as an organization where such fervor is much in evidence.
Fortunately, all Muslims do not embrace shariah and its obligation to engage in jihad.  We cannot ignore, however, the mortal threat posed by those who do - irrespective of whether they can be directly tied to a known terrorist organization.

Napolitano Fools Us

This is Frank Gaffney with the Secure Freedom Minute.
Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano appears today on Capitol Hill to support Comprehensive Immigration Reform.  Presumably, she'll repeat her previous assurances that our southern border is "more secure than ever."
This statement is categorically rejected by many who live there.  More importantly, the prospect that the federal government is not only failing to enforce its current immigration laws, but insists on downplaying the problem is an ominous basis for new legislation that promises amnesty for millions here illegally after the border is secured.
We have been promised border security again and again.  Offering amnesty without it is a formula for more illegal aliens, drugs, foreign gangs and probably terrorists.  Shame on those who fooled us before.  If we're fooled this time, shame on us.

'Self Radicalization.' Not.

This is Frank Gaffney with the Secure Freedom Minute.
We're told "self-radicalization" is why two brothers detonated bombs at the Boston Marathon last week - and reportedly sought to engage in other attacks.
But that term is very misleading.  It implies that the transformation of peaceable Muslims into violent jihadists takes place in a sort of vacuum, with the individual acting in isolation and without encouragement, help or mentoring from others.
In fact, those like the Tsaraev brothers are fulfilling the obligations of shariah - the radical yes, and supremacist but authoritative doctrine of Islam.  And this case reveals plenty of ways in which that practice is encouraged, including in mosques like theirs in Boston, by family members and by prominent imams who preach via the Internet.
We must have no illusions about our jihadist enemies if we are to defeat them.
