Chinese Nightmare

A new generation of Communist Party leaders in China are touting "the Chinese Dream."  That may sound like the local counterpart to the laudable American one - whereby everyone has a chance to better themselves through the exercise of rights to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.
Unfortunately, the Chinese dream is emerging against the backdrop of dismal economic performance and growing domestic unrest over the communists' corrupt and oppressive rule.  In response, Beijing is pursuing a massive military buildup with even deliberately understated official projections showing continued dramatic growth.  It will be by more than 10.7 percent this year alone.
China's new leaders evidently dream of maintaining control at home by behaving more aggressively abroad.  That's a formula for a nightmare for its neighbors, and for the rest of us.

No to Brennan

This is Frank Gaffney with the Secure Freedom Minute.
President Obama wants John Brennan to run the Central Intelligence Agency.  But, as Congressman Trent Franks put it recently, Brennan should not be allowed near the CIA, let alone be put in charge of it, because he doesn't understand the danger posed by self-described jihadists.
Notably, in May 2010, John Brennan insisted that "Jihad is a holy struggle, a legitimate tenet of Islam, meaning to purify oneself or one's community."  Islamists - or their apologists - say such things  in order to confuse us or get us to lower our guard.
It's simply not true.  Jihad is holy war. Period. And to entrust the CIA to someone who gets this fundamental issue so wrong is to invite our destruction at the hands of enemies that have no illusion about their duty to destroy us.

Erdogan's True Colors

Turkey’s prime minister is said to be President Obama’s favorite foreign leader and he portrays Recep Erdogan’s increasingly authoritarian Islamist regime as a model to be emulated elsewhere in the Muslim world.
So, it’s a bit jarring when Erdogan shows his true colors.  For example, he recently equated Zionism with Naziism and called it a “crime against humanity.”  The Obama administration is “shocked, shocked” that their Islamist friend would utter such anti-Semitic tripe. But this is just the latest sign of Turkey’s transformation under the Erdogan government from Israel’s ally to its enemy.
We must stop giving the Turkish regime a pass – let alone political legitimacy, access to sensitive military technology and treatment as a NATO ally – to say nothing of promoting its brand of Islamism as a model for any other country.

Syria Next

The Obama administration says it will start aiding directly the so-called "Syrian opposition." The practical effect will be to provide assistance to al Qaeda and other Islamists that now dominate the groups seeking to bring down Syria's dictator, Bashir Assad.
This folly comes as the abiding danger posed by al Qaeda was exposed yesterday by experts at the American Enterprise Institute.  Despite the President's insistence that the jihadist organization is "on the path to defeat," AEI's Katherine Zimmerman reported "al Qaeda is stronger at an operational level than it has been for many years."
Every day brings fresh evidence that Mr. Obama made a serious mistake in helping bring Islamists to power in Egypt, Libya and Tunisia.  We must not compound it by now doing so in Syria.

Gulen Goes Down

This is Frank Gaffney with the Secure Freedom Minute.
Last night, a small but noteworthy skirmish in what I call the War for the Free World was fought in a school board meeting in Loudoun County, Virginia.  The board overwhelmingly rejected an application for taxpayer funding of a charter school associated with a Turkish Islamist named Fethullah Gullen.
It says much about the advanced state of the stealthy subversion that Gulen calls "jihad of the word" that such a proposal would even be considered.  And no board member even mentioned that cult leader or the problems plaguing his 135 schools across America.
Still, this proposal became a "teachable moment" for people throughout the United States about how Islamists and their enablers are seeking to use our educational and many other institutions to recruit, proselytize and subvert us from within.

WTC 1.0

This is Frank Gaffney with the Secure Freedom Minute.
Twenty years ago today, six Americans lost their lives and over 1,000 more were wounded by the first major act of violent jihad on U.S. soil.  Terrorists tried to topple one tower of New York's landmark World Trade Center into the other.  Sound familiar?
Tragic as that incident was, even more of a tragedy is how little we have learned in the two decades since.  Far too many of our leaders and countrymen remain largely clueless about what the Obama administration euphemistically calls "violent extremism."
We must understand that we confront the latest in a series of supremacist, totalitarian ideologies - this one's adherents call it shariah.  And, twenty years on, it's high time we start countering their efforts to impose it upon us through both violent and stealthy forms of jihad.
