US Troops for "Palestine"

Tomorrow, the United States Senate will decide whether Chuck Hagel should be the next Secretary of Defense.  If it does so, that job will go to a man who believes, among other things, that U.S. forces should be inserted into the West Bank as a means of facilitating the creation of a Palestinian state there.
The best that can be said about such a deployment is that it will embroil the United States directly in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.  More likely, the U.S. forces will wind up protecting jihadists from Israeli defensive measures.  That is particularly the case given Mr. Hagel's well-documented hostility towards the Jewish State.
If you haven't already let your Senators know that America needs a better Secretary of Defense than Chuck Hagel, please let them know today.  And if you have, please do it again.

Spinning the Japanese

This is Frank Gaffney with the Secure Freedom Minute.
President Obama meets today with the Prime Minister of Japan, Shinzo Abe.  Both men will be at pains to emphasize the U.S. commitment to its most important ally in Asia and the confidence the Japanese have in America's longstanding security guarantees.
Unfortunately, this spin is utterly belied by: the Obama administration's hollowing out of our military; its cynical machinations that ensure sequestration will make further, devastating cuts in our ability to project power; and the President's incipient announcement that he will cut by one-third the obsolescing U.S. nuclear arsenal.
At a time when Japan is facing threats from China and North Korea that grow literally by the day, closing America's nuclear umbrella and disengaging from the Western Pacific will only serve to undermine our friends there and embolden their enemies - and ours.

Hagel's Lies

This is Frank Gaffney with the Secure Freedom Minute.
It's a bad omen when a presidential nominee to become Defense Secretary lies to the Senate Armed Services Committee even before he is confirmed.  Expect still worse behavior should Chuck Hagel actually get the job.
During his appearance before the Committee last month, Hagel promised its Chairman, Democrat Carl Levin: "I will commit to [release all speeches] and every request as we have....Everything that is out there that we can find we'll make every effort to get it and provide it."  But Hagel hasn't, for example, opened the archive of his videos, speeches and other papers at the University of Nebraska.
Senate Minority Whip John Cornyn is circulating a letter to his colleagues calling for Hagel to withdraw his nomination.  Urge your Senators to sign on - and vote against Hagel if he won't.

Reject Hagel

This is Frank Gaffney with the Secure Freedom Minute.
Evidently, President Obama's nominee to become the next Defense Secretary has long been an anti-Semite and virulent critic of Israel.  If Senators confirm him for that post, they will not only entrust our military to a man with such views.  They'll become associated with them.
Mr. Hagel has been trying to deny, disavow and/or apologize for a series of outrageous remarks that reflect these sentiments.  Last week, it was his 2007 assertion that the State Department is an adjunct of the Israeli Foreign Minister's office. This week, it's his 2010 description of Israel as an incipient apartheid state and its prime minister as a radical.
Chuck Hagel is not the man to lead the Pentagon.  If he won't withdraw his nomination, it must be rejected by the Senate.

Gulen Cult

This is Frank Gaffney with the Secure Freedom Minute.
Imagine if a cultish German nationalist were operating a chain of schools across the United States promoting his strain of Aryan supremacism.  Would your school board think twice about approving an application for a charter school that would allow millions of tax-dollars to flow to a group of Germans "inspired" by such a problematic figure?
Not very likely.  Yet, the Loudoun County, Virginia school board is the latest in America to consider a similar application - without addressing its proponents' ties. Is that because the cult leader in question is Fethullah Gulen, a Turkish Islamist, not a German nationalist - one who supremacist agenda touts an increasingly shariah-dominated Turkey, rather than some sort of authoritarian Reich.
America needs to keep cultish supremacists - be they of the Turkish or another stripe - out of our public schools.

Losing Afghanistan

This is Frank Gaffney with the Secure Freedom Minute.
President Obama announced last week that the United States will withdraw roughly half of the forces still in Afghanistan.  He says the remaining troops will play a support role aimed at ensuring that the country doesn't slip back into chaos and al Qaeda doesn't regain a foothold.
Unfortunately, those American servicemen and women and their NATO counterparts are increasingly hampered by restrictions on their ability to fight - or even render effective support to Afghans who still want to do so.  The latest limitation prohibits U.S. airpower from aiding our Afghan allies if they get into trouble in residential areas.
Our enemies are adept at exploiting such limitations, putting Americans and their mission at risk.  This is a formula for ensuring we lose the war - and reap the whirlwind in Afghanistan and elsewhere.
