No Hagel Ever

Several Senate Republicans yesterday joined the rest of the GOP caucus in opposing a vote on the nomination of Secretary of Defense-designate Chuck Hagel, but announced they would permit such a vote in ten day's time.  In light of the serious and proliferating reasons to block this appointment, such a delay - while welcome - is not good enough.
For example, just yesterday the Washington Free Beacon uncovered one of the speeches that Hagel seems determined to hide from the Senate.  In an address at Rutgers University, he reportedly declared that the State Department has become an "adjunct to the Israeli foreign minister's office."
Senators like John McCain and Lindsay Graham must not allow the confirmation of a nominee with a record of unhinged, reckless and anti-Israel sentiments. Not in ten days. Not ever.

Filibuster Hagel

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid is forcing a vote tomorrow on Chuck Hagel's nomination to be the next Secretary of Defense. Fortunately, that means he'll need sixty votes to be confirmed.  Never before has this been necessary to fill the job of Pentagon chief. But then, there has never before been a nominee so dangerously ill-suited and inappropriate for that post.
Despite Hagel's transparently false representations during his confirmation hearing, he has a long record of support for Iran and engaging other Islamists - including terrorist groups - but treating our ally, Israel, with contempt.  He has favored unilateral U.S. denuclearization and further hollowing out of our military.
If this doesn't sound like a man you want running our national security, tell your Senators to oppose Harry Reid's efforts to make that disaster happen.

Deserve a Vote?

This is Frank Gaffney with the Secure Freedom Minute.
Barack Obama previewed the true tenor of his second term during the State of the Union address last night.  He closed with a repeated incantation about all the victims of gun-delivered violence who "deserve a vote," suggesting the President intends to take American politics to a new level of demagoguery and bullying partisanship.
But Mr. Obama seems curiously indifferent to other matters that also deserve a vote.  A Senate budget deserves a vote.  Senator Ayotte's bill staving off devastating sequestration defense cuts deserves a vote.  The President's reported unilateral elimination of one-third of our nuclear arsenal deserves a vote.
Will Mr. Obama insist that the Senate vote on issues like these? Actually, he seems happy to have Majority Leader Harry Reid prevent that from happening, even though the American people deserve these votes.

Brennan Redux

Tomorrow, members of the Senate Intelligence Committee will have an opportunity to redeem themselves for their serious dereliction of duty during a hearing last Thursday.
The senators failed to inquire even once about CIA Director-designate John Brennan's willful blindness concerning the Islamic requirement to wage holy war, or jihad.  Instead, they largely focused on whether the Obama administration was excessively zealous in trying to neutralize Americans who betray their country.
Alas, Tuesday's session will be held behind closed doors.  So, we may not know if senators remain  fixated on weakening our ability to kill jihadists of any nationality if they are preparing to kill us.  Or whether they finally turn to exposing John Brennan's direct and disastrous role in promoting the policy of appeasing and empowering such jihadists, at home and abroad.

National Security Fraud

This is Frank Gaffney with the Secure Freedom Minute.
The outgoing Secretary of State recently declared that we confront a "global jihadist threat." The outgoing Secretary of Defense says we live in "a time of rising instability around the world."  It amounts to national security fraud that these realities were not acknowledged until after President Obama's reelection.
Of course, Hillary Clinton and Leon Panetta have known these realities for months, if not years.  Key legislators in both parties know the planet has become much more dangerous during the Obama presidency.  The public, however, has been misled into believing al Qaeda is being defeated and everything is under control.
The least we can do now is ensure the Senate does not compound this fraud by confirming Chuck Hagel and John Brennan, two men certain to perpetrate more of it and increase our peril.

Hedagaard Lives

Yesterday, a courageous Danish journalist literally dodged the bullet meant to end his outspoken truth-telling about the threat jihadists pose to his country and the rest of the Free World.
The attempted assassination of Lars Hedegaard comes on the eve of meetings of the world's Muslim nations under the banner of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (or OIC).  They are expected to embrace an initiative that will likely encourage many more such acts of jihad by equating any criticism of Islam with hatred of that faith.  According to the Islamists' totalitarian doctrine known as shariah, that is a capital offense.
Lars Hedegaard is the canary in the mine.  Our freedoms and our lives, as well as his, are at risk.  We must put the OIC on notice that we will defend both.
