Crisis in China

This is Frank Gaffney with the Secure Freedom Minute.
Americans have lately been focused on a leadership contest in this country.  But another, potentially equally consequential one has been going on half-a-world away.  While ours involves the democratic election of a president to govern for four years, the one in Communist China has been engineered in secret and is supposed to last for an entire decade.

Everything may not go according to plan in Beijing.  Sluggish economic performance is intensifying opposition to a Communist Party elite rocked by scandal.  And outgoing President, Hu Jintao warned yesterday that rampant corruption could “prove fatal to the party” and lead to the fall of the state.

The likely beneficiary of such a crisis in Chinese ruling circles will be the king-making military.  That won’t be good for the people of China – or the United States.

Alinsky Wins!

This is Frank Gaffney with the Secure Freedom Minute.
Well, it’s over. Congratulations go to Barack Obama, who won reelection and the presidency for four more years. Now, he must bind up the wounds inflicted on the nation during this protracted campaign.
That necessary and desirable goal will, unfortunately, be made more difficult by the way Mr. Obama campaigned. He mobilized his partisans – but bitterly divided the country – with the politics of envy, grievance and entitlement.
This was most evident in the Democrats’ vicious, but highly effective, personal attacks on Mitt Romney. The approach was right out of the playbook of Mr. Obama’s mentor, Saul Alinsky, a self-described revolutionary who called for freezing, personalizing and polarizing an adversary.
The test of whether President Obama now will truly lead “one nation” will be whether he continues to apply or jettisons Alinsky’s rules for radicals.

Vote!

This is Frank Gaffney with the Secure Freedom Minute.
This is it. Not D-Day, but E-Day. The day we determine via an election the direction of our country for the next four years by choosing the man who will guide it as our next president and Commander-in-Chief. It’s a choice I encourage you to make – and make carefully – by doing your part: Cast your ballot.
As you do, I hope that you will factor into your decision two questions: Are you safer today than you were four years ago? And just as importantly, if present trends continue around the world, will you and your kids be safer four years from now than you are today?
You can help determine the answer to rising threats from Islamists, Chinese Communists and assorted other enemies and the hollowing out of our military now underway. Please be sure to vote.

Obama's Silent Conquest

Should we be alarmed that President Obama says “The future must not belong to those who slander the prophet of Islam”?  After all, this sentiment is shared by those like the Muslim Brotherhood and the Taliban and al Qaeda who demand an end to statements, books, cartoons and videos they find offensive.

A new film called “Silent Conquest” provides troubling evidence that Mr. Obama is sympathetic to such demands. It shows his administration engaging in a series of actions that threaten to restrict our foundational liberty – freedom of speech – if it might offend Muslims.

National Discussion

This is Frank Gaffney with the Secure Freedom Minute.
We need to talk. Specifically, we need a national conversation about one of the most important challenges confronting our country, now much in evidence in the devastated Northeast.

As predicted, millions are struggling to get fuel, food, medical supplies, access to cell phone networks, transportation, etc. – all because there are widespread blackouts in the electrical grid.  The good news is that power is being slowly restored.  Hopefully, within a week or two this nightmare will be over.

But deliberate attacks on our vulnerable electrical grid using cyberwarfare or electromagnetic pulse could take it out for a year or more.  Ditto intense solar storms.  Millions of us won’t survive such a blackout and the loss of the infrastructures it supports.  Hurricane Sandy makes clear that we have to act now to protect our grid.

Muslim Attitude

This is Frank Gaffney with the Secure Freedom Minute.
A new poll of American Muslims is deeply unsettling.  Conducted by the respected Wenzel Group, it found that 58% of those sampled believe that the Constitution’s First Amendment should not allow criticism of Islam or Muhammad.

Dr. Andrew Bostom, author of the breathtaking new book: Shariah Versus Freedom, reports, 45% said those who criticize or parody Islam in the U.S. should face criminal charges, while another 17% were "unsure".  And fully 12% of this Muslim sample said that the penalty for doing so should be death.

Clearly, not all Muslims in this country want to subvert our constitutional rights, let alone turn their exercise into capital offenses.  We must not ignore the fact, however, that many do – and those opposed to such practices are not standing up for freedom.
