Pakistan Threatens To Kill Christian Girl

Pakistani threats to kill a Christian girl for allegedly burning a text book containing verses from the Muslim holy book, the Quran, is a teachable moment.  It now appears that she may avoid execution because she is a minor and possibly one afflicted with Down Syndrome, to boot.
But those technicalities must not obscure what is transpiring.  Muslims in Pakistan – as elsewhere – who adhere to the supremacist Islamic legal code called shariah are using its  barbaric punishments to terrorize, to suppress and, in some cases, to kill Christians and others, sometimes including fellow Muslims.
This behavior is, like shariah itself, fundamentally about power, not faith.  It must be condemned in the strongest terms and resisted.  That applies particularly to the Islamists’ stealthy efforts to insinuate shariah here and to secure our submission.

Sequestration and the Economy

This is Frank Gaffney with the Secure Freedom Minute.
The Congressional Budget Office made news yesterday by warning of a return to economic recession next year if politicians in Washington cannot resolve their budget impasse.  Roughly two million jobs may be lost shortly after the election if there is no relief from the across-the-board spending cuts imposed by the so-called “sequestration” mechanism. 
One would think that such a prospect might concentrate the minds of the political class. After all, if Americans realize before the election that there will be millions of pink slips handed out after they cast their ballots, they may give plenty of them to office-holders.  
Let’s hope that the CBO’s warning causes politicians to hear a lot from their constituents about the imperative need to prevent this self-imposed economic disaster NOW, not clean up after it occurs.

Syria's Chemical Weapons

This is Frank Gaffney with the Secure Freedom Minute.
Suddenly, there’s a new “red line” that could thrust the United States into war with Syria, and perhaps others. President Obama declared yesterday that “there would be enormous consequences if we start seeing movement on the chemical weapons front, or the use of chemical weapons.” He added:
“We cannot have a situation where biological or chemical weapons are falling in the hands of the wrong people."
The trouble is that such weapons are in the hands of the wrong people now, namely one of the most dangerous regimes on the planet. And there is every likelihood that, if Team Obama has its way, they will fall into the hands of still more ominous ones when the Assad regime is supplanted by the Muslim Brotherhood and perhaps al Qaeda. What then, Mr. President?

Obama Working With Taliban

This is Frank Gaffney with the Secure Freedom Minute.
Team Obama is heading for the exits on Afghanistan. They think the way out will require facilitating the return to power of the virulently Islamist Taliban through a negotiated settlement.
This happens to be the position of one of the world’s most dangerous jihadists, Sheikh Youssef al-Qaradawi, a man the Obama administration has reportedly been using to get the Taliban to the table. Their price is said to be the release of five of the top Taliban leaders currently incarcerated in our prison at Guantanamo Bay.
Americans may be tired of this long war. We certainly don’t want to lose more of our troops there. But surrendering Afghanistan to the Taliban and replenishing their senior ranks will add immeasurably to the cost we will ultimately pay for thus emboldening our Islamist enemies.

Grover Norquist's Sabotage

This is Frank Gaffney with the Secure Freedom Minute.
Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney and his running mate, Rep. Paul Ryan, were recently sharply criticized over their commitment to reverse massive budget cuts Team Obama is making at the expense of our military capabilities and national security.
What made this attack notable – and potentially very damaging  to the GOP standard bearers – is that it came, not from the Democrats, but from a prominent Republican political operative, Grover Norquist.  It is hard to see how his contention that Messrs. Romney and Ryan can’t be trusted to spend wisely on defense will help anybody but their opponents.
Grover Norquist has no expertise on national security and his judgment on such matters is deeply flawed.  If Republicans lose this fall, Norquist’s undermining of the GOP ticket on a critical issue may be partly why.

Morsi and the Egyptian Military

This is Frank Gaffney with the Secure Freedom Minute.
Washington is reeling from the speed and decisiveness exhibited by the Muslim Brotherhood’s new president of Egypt, Mohamed Morsi, as he consolidated his control over his country’s military. Far from being intimidated by the seemingly permanent power of Egypt’s generals, he actually forced two of them to retire and scrapped their directives opposed by the Brotherhood.
Team Obama responded by moving the proverbial goal posts. Unnamed sources tell the Washington Post that the real test will come, not from the military, but an Islamist take-over of the judiciary. Unfortunately, that will likely occur shortly.
Meanwhile, the United States, Israel and the region more broadly confront a new reality: An array of advanced and sophisticated American weaponry – namely, the Egyptian military’s arsenal – is now in the hands of our enemies: the Muslim Brotherhood.
