Obama's Islamic Dinner

Last Friday, President Obama hosted his fourth Iftar dinner since gaining the White House, breaking the Islamic fast for Ramadan in the company of dozens of prominent Muslims.  A number of them have ties to the Muslim Brotherhood.
One of those was singled out for presidential praise: Huma Abedin, the State Department’s Deputy Chief of Staff.  Mr. Obama lauded Huma’s patriotism and thanked her for tireless service to the country.
That statement is a deflection, like the larger effort of which it is a part.  The Obama administration is desperate to divert public scrutiny from the influence exercised in its policy-making circles by individuals – including, but not limited to, Huma Abedin – who have been linked to the Brotherhood.  Hard questions about this practice need to be answered, not deflected or suppressed.

Egypt's "Retaliation"

This is Frank Gaffney with the Secure Freedom Minute.
Islamists tried to attack Israel from the Sinai earlier this week, killing sixteen Egyptian border troops in the process. Egypt’s new Muslim Brotherhood president vowed revenge. And state media claimed twenty insurgents were killed in retaliation.
Yet, when a National Public Radio reporter visited the area yesterday, she found that nobody had actually been targeted, let alone killed, by the Egyptian military. Whats up with that?
In short, Israel now faces threats not just from Islamists in the Sinai, but from those running the government of Egypt. The latter may condemn the former in order to secure even more from Uncle Sam than the $1.5 billion Team Obama recently provided. We must expect the Egyptian beneficiaries of our largesse to use it against our Israeli allies, not to help protect them.

Andy McCarthy on the Muslim Brotherhood

This is Frank Gaffney with the Secure Freedom Minute.
One of America’s greatest authorities on the threat posed by the Muslim Brotherhood and other Islamists seeking our destruction is Andrew McCarthy.  He’s written extensively about it, including a book called Willful Blindness: A Memoir of the Jihad.  It chronicles his experiences prosecuting the conspirators who tried to destroy the World Trade Center the first time, in 1993.
Willfully blind aptly describes the response of many in government and the elite media about Mr. McCarthy’s latest warnings concerning the stealthy subversion called “civilization jihad.”  At a press briefing yesterday in Washington, he laid out evidence that such Muslim Brotherhood influence operations may be “inside the wire” at our State Department.

Who Will Rule Syria?

This is Frank Gaffney with the Secure Freedom Minute.
The rising number of defections from the senior ranks of Syrian dictator Bashar Assad’s regime suggests that its days are numbered. The so-called “opposition” is increasingly well –armed and lethal – thanks to outside help from Turkey, the Saudis and Qatar and, apparently, the CIA. So, what’s next?
It seems unlikely to be freedom for the Syrian people. Rather, they are likely to have imposed on them an Islamist form of totalitarianism as the replacement for Assad’s secular type. The new masters of Syria will be, at best, the Muslim Brotherhood, and at worst al Qaeda.
If so, the danger will not be confined to Syrian territory or even to Israel. The jihadists may inherit chemical and biological weapons of mass destruction which could be a threat to us all. What’s the plan, President Obama?

America's Three-Legged Stool

This is Frank Gaffney with the Secure Freedom Minute.
Ronald Reagan forged a winning electoral majority on the stable foundation of what he described as a three-legged stool: fiscal discipline, traditional values and peace through strength.
Today’s Republicans seem to think they can regain the White House by cutting off two legs from that stool, disregarding, if not dismissing, outright conservative social issues and national-security themes.
Last week, the GOP’s presidential candidate, Mitt Romney, said his campaign was “not going to talk about” either the Chick-fil-A controversy or the attack on Rep. Michele Bachmann and four of her colleagues for their call to investigate Muslim Brotherhood influence operations that appear with increasing success to be targeting the Obama administration.
The American people need to know where Governor Romney stands on our values and on our security – not just on our deficit.

Egypt vs. Israel

This is Frank Gaffney with the Secure Freedom Minute.
Yesterday’s attack on Israel from the Sinai is the latest indication that the so-called Arab Spring is turning into a dangerous Islamist winter. The overthrow of Hosni Mubarak who kept the peace – albeit a cold one – with the Jewish State has ushered in a Muslim Brotherhood-dominated regime in Egypt.
That new government has opened its border with Gaza, allowing arms to flow to the terrorist organization that runs the place, Hamas. Al Qaeda has established a presence in the Sinai from which attacks on Israeli territory are proliferating.
Israel cannot remain passive in the face of such threats – making an Israeli-Egyptian conflict a matter of when, not if. To the extent the Obama administration persists in supporting the Muslim Brotherhood, it will help bring a new war to the Middle East.
