Panetta In Kabul

This is Frank Gaffney with the Secure Freedom Minute.
Enroute home from a long Asian trip, Defense Secretary Leon Panetta visited briefly today with some of our troops at the airport in Kabul, Afghanistan.  The audience must have found his pep talk confusing, if not absurdly unbelievable.
Mr. Panetta said “We’re not going anywhere.”  That must be news to both our troops, Afghan President Hamid Karzai and the Taliban. They all know that President Obama has decided we are outta there in 2014.
The Pentagon chief added that “We have an enduring commitment to the security and stability of Afghanistan” and that the international community is signaling very strongly to the Taliban that “time is not on their side.”  
The only thing worse than our losing in Afghanistan is lying to ourselves and others about it.

Disposing of al-Libi

This is Frank Gaffney with the Secure Freedom Minute.
The reported liquidation of one of al Qaeda’s top terrorists, Abu Yahya al-Libi, is a cause for celebration by all those who love freedom – and were, therefore, his sworn enemies.  Congratulations to U.S. intelligence for finding him, to the operators of the lethal unmanned vehicle that took him out and to President Obama for ordering the hit.
That said, don’t confuse this with an end of the threat from al Qaeda, let alone the threat we face from others who share the doctrine al-Libi and his ilk call “shariah.” While we are successfully eliminating key operatives in Pakistan and Yemen, Islamic supremacist organizations bent on imposing shariah worldwide – like the Muslim Brotherhood and its subsidiaries and offshoots, including al Qaeda – are taking over whole countries.  And that’s not progress for our side.

War on Women

This is Frank Gaffney with the Secure Freedom Minute.
Starting today, Senate Democrats will try to paint Republicans as indifferent to evidence that female employees get paid less than their male counterparts. The goal is to promote President Obama’s narrative that there is a GOP-led “war on women.” 
Utterly unaddressed is an actual war on women being enabled by, of all people, Barack Obama.  Thanks to efforts being made by, and with the support of, his administration, a brutally woman-hating Islamic doctrine known as shariah is being steadily insinuated into this country.

Obama Deciding To Arm Syria?

This is Frank Gaffney with the Secure Freedom Minute.
The Obama administration is moving towards intervention in Syria’s unfolding, murderous civil war.  Today’s political support and humanitarian assistance for what it calls “the opposition” seems likely to turn shortly into an even more direct role.
After all, Governor Mitt Romney recently challenged Team Obama to arm that opposition.
As Andrew McCarthy points out at National Review Online, however, while the heinous Assad regime is killing civilians, so are those seeking its overthrow.  The latter include al Qaeda and possibly the Muslim Brotherhood.
Some say we have a “responsibility to protect” victims of such violence.  Our government’s first responsibility though is to protect our people.  That duty would be violated if we again help replace one set of brutal oppressors with even more lethal, shariah-adherent ones – who will, in due course, threaten us.

Chinese Military Tech

This is Frank Gaffney with the Secure Freedom Minute.
It seems some of the U.S. military’s arms and computer systems use electronic chips manufactured in Communist China that have been secretly outfitted with “back doors.”
Such back doors mean that prospective enemies could commandeer our weapons or computer networks at a moment of their choosing – and to our grave detriment.
It’s clearly intolerable that the Chinese manufacture nearly all the world’s chips – including ones on which we critically depend.  Ditto their controlling the supply of nearly all the planet’s rare earth minerals, equally essential to our weapon systems and security. 
In the future, a China inclined to act aggressively may calculate – rightly or wrongly – that it can exploit its back doors and our dependencies to deter or neutralize any American response.  To prevent war, we must fix such vulnerabilities.

America's Last Push

This is Frank Gaffney with the Secure Freedom Minute.
What’s being described as the last U.S.-led offensive of the war in Afghanistan has just been launched in Gazni Province, a Taliban stronghold.
That’s curious since, throughout history, the last offensive in a war has only been known after someone has won.  For example, Hitler didn’t intend the Battle of the Bulge to be the last Nazi offensive of World War II.  It proved to be because afterwards his side was defeated.
The operation in Gazni Province will be our final push if, as appears to be the case, President Obama has decided to lose.  Make no mistake though, as long as our enemies are prepared to fight on, they will surely engage in more offensives and ultimately be seen as the victors – with horrific repercussions for the Afghans, and probably for us.
