Chen In The West

This is Frank Gaffney with the Secure Freedom Minute.
China’s blind dissident, Chen Guangcheng, is now a free man.  He, his wife and children were effectively exiled over the weekend and flown to America where Chen will begin studying law.
Unfortunately, other family members and friends who helped him escape brutal house arrest and secretly reach the U.S. embassy in Beijing last month are still at the mercy of government agents.  And Chinese women and other opponents of the official forced abortion and sterilization practices conducted in the name of the so-called “One-Child Policy” have lost their most courageous champion in China.
Welcome as Chen Guangcheng’s freedom is, his fight for human rights in China must go on.  He will need our help to ensure that his voice is heard even more widely now in China – not diminished by his exile in the West.

Muslim Brotherhood Infiltrates the LAPD

Last month, the Center for Security Policy in Washington made available a free, online course. It offered a powerful warning about a group tied to the Muslim Brotherhood that has penetrated the Justice Department and other federal agencies.
Yesterday, that group, the Muslim Public Affairs Council or MPAC made clear that it has also penetrated the Los Angeles Police Department.  LAPD concessions will make it much more difficult for Los Angeles police to perform effective counter-terrorism surveillance and operations among Muslims who adhere to the jihadist doctrine MPAC promotes, known as shariah.

Kansas American Laws For American Courts

This is Frank Gaffney with the Secure Freedom Minute.
Last week, the Kansas legislature adopted legislation to ensure that the U.S. Constitution remains, as its Article VI declares, “the supreme law of the land.”  The bill, known as the “American Laws for American Courts” act ensures that judges cannot use foreign laws instead of ours if doing so would violate citizens’ constitutional rights. 
Such an initiative has been made necessary particularly by the insinuation of the Islamic code known as shariah into U.S. courts.  Where that occurs, the losers are usually women and children who have under shariah law few, if any, of the liberties we take for granted.
Kansas Representative Peggy Mast deserves great credit for engineering the adoption of American Laws for American Courts by her colleagues.  Shariah’s proponents are demanding a veto by Governor Sam Brownback.  Ain’t gonna happen.

NATO Without Israel

This is Frank Gaffney with the Secure Freedom Minute.
Barack Obama will be hosting many of our nation’s most important allies in Chicago later this week.  One country will be conspicuously absent when the North Atlantic Treaty Organization convenes in the President’s home town, however:  Israel. 
Israel is not a NATO member, of course.  The Jewish State has often been included in such meetings due to its role in protecting the alliance’s southern flank in the front lines of the War for the Free World.
 These days, though, the increasingly problematic leader of one NATO member state, Turkey’s Islamist Recep Erdogan is doing everything possible to isolate and undermine  Israel.  Shame on President Obama for acceding to Erdogan’s demands.  Unfortunately, that’s just one sign of how dangerously misdirected is his preference for the Islamists over our true friends in Israel.

Chinese Faulty Banks

This is Frank Gaffney with the Secure Freedom Minute.
Revelations that JP Morgan Chase lost $2 billion have got a lot of people, from President Obama on down, wondering whether there is adequate regulation of the U.S. banking sector.
The furor over JP Morgan’s losses has obscured another development in that sector, however – one that should raise far more serious questions about who’s minding the store in this important industry and the adequacy of regulatory mechanisms.
At the urging of the Obama administration, the Federal Reserve Board has just approved access to our market for three Chinese government-owned banks.  Unfortunately, as Forbes.com columnist Gordon Chang has pointed out, these banks would – by any reasonable definition – be considered insolvent, and wholly inadequately supervised by the communist government that owns them.
That’s no way to increase necessary public confidence in our country’s banking sector.

Israel's Birthday

This is Frank Gaffney with the Secure Freedom Minute.
Sixty-four years ago today, the nation of Israel was reestablished in the Jews’ ancient homeland.  Her enemies immediately set about trying to destroy the Jewish State and have sought to do so ever since. 
The danger they might succeed has arguably never been greater than at present.  Iran is getting nuclear weapons with which to achieve its stated goal of “wiping Israel off the map.”  Its proxies and allies are ever-more-aggressively threatening Israel with terror – and possibly conventional war.  And Israel has no reliable friend in the White House.
The good news is that Prime Minister Netanyahu now leads a new government – one of the strongest in memory.  And America may soon get one.  Until then, every effort must be made to ensure that Israel survives to celebrate many more happy birthdays.
