Preparing For Peace, But Getting War

Throughout history a simple principal has been proven again and again, if you want peace, prepare for war. The problem is time after time; particularly Western nations like ours have been tempted to ignore this principal.  They have weakened themselves and in the process actually encouraged their enemies to exploit that weakness.  
Today at the Pentagon President Obama is making the same ghastly mistake, having fundamentally and disastrously transformed the Middle East, emboldened China and ignored rising dangers in our own hemisphere.
We are now hearing brace talk about strategic pivots and maintaining just the capability to fight one war and stave off disaster on another front.  Unfortunately, that‘s all it is, talk. Talk that says to our foes we are preparing for peace and we are likely to get war.

Treaty With The Taliban?

This is Frank Gaffney with the Secure Freedom Minute.
It’s often said that the war we found ourselves in on 9/11 would not end with unconditional victory for America.  No decisive outcome symbolized, say, by the signing ceremony on the battleship Missouri that ended World War II.
Unfortunately, if the Obama administration has its way, what seems increasingly in prospect is some peace treaty with Afghanistan’s Taliban that will amount to a decisive defeat for America.
An early indicator is Team Obama’s reported promise to release several senior Taliban detainees from Guantanamo Bay.  The Taliban extracted this concession as a price just for opening a political office in Qatar to facilitate future negotiations.
Worse yet, Obama has evidently engaged one of the world’s most dangerous Islamist ideologues, Sheikh Yusuf al-Qaradawi, to broker these talks.  Stand by for our unconditional surrender.

Iran's Fight For The Strait of Hormuz

This is Frank Gaffney with the Secure Freedom Minute.
The Islamic Republic of Iran spent the past ten days demonstrating that it can shut down a strategic bottleneck through which passes much of the world’s energy supplies from the Middle East.
The Obama administration has responded by asserting that the U.S. Navy will keep the Strait of Hormuz open, no matter what.
Unfortunately, even without the Iranian missiles and naval capabilities recently on display, the mullahs could effectively cut off oil flows via the Persian Gulf.  All they really need to do is persuade Lloyds of London that it’s too dangerous to insure ships plying those waters, and the vessels won’t go there.
If this is how Iran is behaving before they get nuclear weapons, imagine what they will do after they have the bomb.  Will we wait to find out?

China's New GPS

This is Frank Gaffney with the Secure Freedom Minute.
It’s not the Chinese New Year, but China obviously has big plans for 2012.
Last week, the Peoples Republic rolled out the newest model of their version of the U.S. Global Positioning System.
Like its American counterpart, the Chinese GPS will have civilian applications.  But the Peoples Liberation Army will use it extensively to improve the accuracy of various weapon systems designed to deny our armed forces access to the Western Pacific and East Asia.
Even more troubling is the prospect that, once the PRC’s constellation of navigation satellites is in place, the Chinese will be able to use their arsenal of space control weapons to neutralize our GPS satellites.  The effect would be catastrophic – on our military and civilians alike.
As usual, China is thinking strategically about the future.  Are we?

America Was Played

This is Frank Gaffney with the Secure Freedom Minute.
“We were played.”  So said an unnamed U.S. official about a missile strike in Yemen last year.  It seems we were duped by the Yemini government into assassinating a deputy governor on the outs with then-President Ali Saleh. 
Homeland Security Advisor John Brennan is said to be upset about being snookered in this way.  Unfortunately, his policies have  enabled our enemies to access and manipulate our government.
For instance, Team Obama is now using an exceedingly dangerous Islamist to broker peace talks with the Taliban.  Unlike Yemen’s erstwhile dictator – who was a sometime-friend, Yusuf al Qaradawi routinely uses his show on al Jazeera TV to call for killing Americans and other infidels.
Relying on enemies for help invites disaster.  Those like John Brennan who encourage America to do so should lose their jobs.

Iran's 9/11 Connection

This is Frank Gaffney with the Secure Freedom Minute.
Last week, Federal Judge George Daniels ruled in New York that Iran is liable, along with al Qaeda and the Taliban, for the attacks that killed nearly 3,000 Americans on 9/11.
As the Associated Press put it, the judge also found that: “Iran continues to provide material support and resources to al Qaeda by providing a safe haven for al Qaeda leadership and rank-and-file al Qaeda members.”
These findings cap a year in which Iran has tried to kill the Saudi ambassador in Washington, planned cyber-attacks on U.S. nuclear and other facilities and provocatively conducted exercises simulating its forcible closure of the strategic Strait of Hormuz.
Will Team Obama realize Iran is at war with us before the mullahs are able to add nuclear weapons to the ways they will wage it?
