Losing Religious Freedom

Last week, I told you about a little-known, but vitally important, organization – the U.S. Commission on International Religious Freedom.  Thanks to its congressional mandate, this official organization has the independence to be an effective watchdog about efforts by Islamists and others to suppress religious liberty. 
We need this Commission and its truth-telling today more than ever at a time when the rise of Islam’s barbaric shariah doctrine is translating into mounting repression abroad – and submission by the Obama administration at home. 
Tragically, a single U.S. Senator may terminate the Religious Freedom Commission by week’s end.  At a minimum, Senator Dick Durban seeks to turn this watchdog into a lapdog for our enemies.

Obama's Appeasment Failures

Yesterday, team Obama gave the Mullahs that run Iran fresh reason for contempt for America, a sentiment that only encourages them to act more aggressively.
One the one hand President Obama blustered in a joint press conference with Iraqi Prime Minister Maliki that the Iranians shouldn’t even think about exploiting the vacuum of power our imminent and complete with drawl from Iraq will create.
Nearly simultaneously our secretaries of State and Defense requested that Iran return the stealthy U.S. loaded with Top Secret technologies that they mysteriously obtained.
Unfortunately, the Iraqis are already under the Mullah’s thumb and Russia, China and North Korea are far more likely to get their hands on our drone than we are.  Such are the fruits of Obama’s appeasement and worse is likely yet to come.

Newt and the EMP Threat

This is Frank Gaffney with the Secure Freedom Minute.
The New York Times today criticizes Newt Gingrich for raising an alarm about the threat posed by electro-magnetic pulse or EMP.  Newt is correct, and the Times is wrong.
The Times says it is unclear what an enemy would accomplish by detonating a nuclear weapon high over our country.  In fact, a blue-ribbon commission found this to be a real and devastating threat.
The commission established that an EMP attack would catastrophically damage or destroy our electrical grid and the infrastructures it powers, on which our society critically depends.  Its chairman says that within a year, nine out of ten Americans would be dead.
Newt Gingrich is right that we need to take steps now to mitigate this danger.  The New York Times is doing a serious disservice by downplaying the EMP threat.

Secretary Clinton and the OIC

This is Frank Gaffney with the Secure Freedom Minute.
Next week, Secretary of State Hillary Clinton will host meetings with a noxious Islamist group determined to force Americans – and everybody else – to submit to the totalitarian doctrine they call “shariah.”
Specifically, the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, or OIC, is demanding that the United States government prevent Americans from “offending” Muslims.  That would mean giving up, or infringing upon, our First Amendment rights to free expression. Even speaking the truth would be criminalized when it comes to discussing, for example, shariah’s requirement to engage in jihad and its horrific treatment of women, homosexuals and other religious groups.
Secretary of State Clinton has no business negotiating with the OIC – or anybody else – over our fundamental freedoms.  To quote another former First Lady, the right answer to such demands is to “just say no.”

America's Religious Freedom

Pearl Harbor Remembered

This is Frank Gaffney with the Secure Freedom Minute.
Seventy years ago today, enemies surprised America with an attack that killed nearly 2,400 of our people at Pearl Harbor.  We were suddenly propelled into World War II, the worst global cataclysm ever.  It concluded only when we achieved the unconditional surrender of those who struck us on December 7, 1941.
Ten years ago, enemies surprised us again with attacks aimed at New York and Washington, D.C. that killed almost 3,000.  The resulting War for the Free World continues a decade later.  But our present enemies’ unconditional surrender is nowhere in sight.
Unfortunately, far worse surprise attacks may now be in the offing.  These could involve electro-magnetic pulse or cyber warfare against our electricity-dependent infrastructure, or biological agents unleashed on our population.  We may never recover from – and cannot allow – such surprises.
