Another Bad UN Treaty
This is Frank Gaffney with the Secure Freedom Minute.
Secretary of State John Kerry today will sign a deeply problematic new United Nations treaty. Its stated purpose is to limit the sale and transfer of small arms and other weapons.
Such UN accords claim to create international norms protecting innocent civilians. In practice, though, they wind up binding only nations like ours that abide by their international obligations. They often infringe upon our sovereignty, as well.
This treaty will surely complicate our ability to support our friends like Israel, whose security is bolstered by our reliable supply of weapons. It may also become a pretext for interfering with our right to bear arms here at home.
The U.S. Senate seems unlikely to approve this ill-conceived treaty. Just by signing it, though, Team Obama is committing us to submit to its restrictions. Bad idea.
