Defense Cuts Either Way

This is Frank Gaffney with the Secure Freedom Minute.

As the President and congressional leaders enter the final throes of their negotiations on avoiding the fiscal cliff, much is uncertain.  One thing seems clear, however:  President Obama is poised to make deep reductions in our national security capabilities, irrespective of the outcome of this weekend’s talks.

If there is no deal that prevents the so-called sequestration mechanism from cutting another $500 billion from defense spending, what Obama Defense Secretary Leon Panetta has called a “doomsday machine” will be unleashed on our military.  The administration will make across-the-board reductions in every program, irrespective of their importance. And even if there is a deal, Mr. Obama seems determined to further dismantle our nuclear deterrent in 2013 – perhaps unilaterally.  Either way, he will be making the world a more dangerous place for America and her people.
