This is Frank Gaffney with the Secure Freedom Minute.
The situation on the Korean peninsula feels, as Yogi Bera famously quipped, like déjà vu all over again.
For its part, the regime on the northern side of the Demilitarized Zone is, once again, combining its acquisition of ever-more-dangerous weapons with increasing belligerency towards its neighbors and the United States.
And, once again, South Koreans have responded to the clear and growing menace from the North by electing a president who believes he can mitigate it through appeasement, pursued via what is euphemistically known as a “Sunshine Policy.”
We have seen this movie before – and it doesn’t end well. Rewarding North Korean bullying and military buildups simply encourages more of the same, and inexorably increases the threat from Pyongyang.
The United States must stand firm and insist on actually protecting our forces and people from that threat.
