Karzai's Visit

Barack Obama is meeting this week with Afghanistan's Hamid Karzai, who owes his presidency to American military might.  Without it, his country and people would be subject once again to the ruinous misrule of Taliban jihadists.

We can expect to hear little by way of appreciation from Mr. Karzai during his visit to Washington.  Instead, he will demand more money and try to dictate terms for the continued presence of whatever forces the United States might be willing to keep in-country after 2014. Such arrogance is particularly galling coming as it does on the heels of dozens of attacks by uniformed Afghans on our personnel.  Hamid Karzai should understand that it merely serves to undercut arguments for further American sacrifice in lives and treasure for his corrupt and increasingly unreliable regime.
