Kevin McCarthy won a prohibitively costly “victory” yesterday by pushing through the House of Representatives a debt ceiling hike supported by more Democrats than Republicans. 
After the vote, the Speaker boasted that it was easier to do than he had anticipated. Here’s why: Surrendering generally takes less effort than fighting and prevailing over your partisan foes.
In this case, as a White House official made clear, the so-called bipartisan compromise “locked in,” rather than defunded, Democratic priorities – like hiring 87,000 armed IRS agents and radical leftist energy and climate change priorities. And there’s no limit to how much additional national debt can be incurred over the next two years.
Mr. McCarthy’s Pyrrhic victory will have another cost: It profoundly alienates Republicans who voted for a real opposition to the Biden Marxists, not a controlled one that merely enables their take-down of America.

The sad truth is that too many congressional Republicans amount to little more than a “controlled opposition.” Full of rhetorical posturing but, when it matters, doing basically whatever the left demands.
In January, Kevin McCarthy was compelled to promise, if elected Speaker, to oppose – rather than submit to – the Marxists running the executive branch and the Senate. His critics wisely required that the rules enable any one of them to depose him if he reneged.
Barely six months later, it’s clear that Speaker McCarthy has reverted to form. His so-called “deal” with Joe Biden on the debt ceiling is precisely what the governing leftists expect from opposition figures they control. It should be spurned by the Republican caucus and the Speaker’s chair “vacated” to be filled by someone truly committed to “opposing,” not enabling, Obama-Biden 3.0’s “fundamental transformation” of America.

There would never be a good time to say farewell to a magnificent patriot and courageous editorialist, essayist and investigative reporter like my friend, Claudia Rosett. But her loss at this particular moment in the arc of her profession is nothing short of devastating. 
For decades, Claudia epitomized the working journalist who served as our founders intended – namely, as an independent, honest check on the three branches of government, fearlessly speaking truth to power. She did the same with tyrants abroad.
Claudia Rosett was an exemplar of authentic reporting. More to the point, she practiced it the way we desperately require at present. Those who believe that it amounts to nothing more than reprinting official press releases and collaborating in the suppression of dissenting views will have a special place in Hell, as Claudia surely has one in Heaven.

This day is dedicated to the memory of those who, in Abraham Lincoln’s immortal words, gave our country “the last full measure of devotion” by forfeiting their lives so that she might survive. 
It is, therefore, a fitting moment to consider whether our fallen heroes would feel betrayed that we think so little of their sacrifice that we’re poised blithely to surrender the sovereignty and freedoms they died to bequeath to us to advance a totalitarian agenda called “global governance.” 
That would be the practical effect of the accords being finalized this week in Geneva by the World Health Organization with the stealthy connivance of the Biden administration. Unless we withdraw from the WHO, an unaccountable Communist international bureaucrat will be empowered to dictate our public health policies governing all humans, animals and plants. 
Congress must expose – and exit – the WHO now.

Over the course of the three Obama-Biden terms, the most radical leftist administration in our history has tirelessly pursued the “fundamental transformation of the United States” that then-Senator Barack Obama promised in an unguarded moment on the eve of his first presidential election. 
This goal is far advanced in our armed forces, thanks to purges of skilled warriors: deemed to be insufficiently ideologically aligned with the Marxists’ so-called “woke” agenda; unwilling to be compelled to take the COVID “jab”; and/or opposed to the administration’s appeasement of the Chinese Communist Party that is imperiling America.
Now, Air Force General Charles “C.Q.” Brown has been nominated to succeed – and likely surpass – the worst Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff ever. This appointment must precipitate a Senate fight to save and restore our military before we lose the war Obama-Biden 3.0 is inviting.

Judicial Watch president Tom Fitton characteristically pulled no punches in recently depicting the subject of special prosecutor John Durham’s investigation this way: “President Trump is a crime victim who was targeted by a seditious conspiracy by Obama, Biden, Clinton and their Deep State allies.”
Mr. Durham’s final report, released last week, basically substantiated that conclusion. And yet, despite the gravity of  such criminal activity at the highest levels of the U.S. government, the prosecutor failed to indict any of the senior officials demonstrably implicated in its commission. 
Few things are more corrosive in a democracy like ours than eroding the American people’s confidence that our judicial system delivers “equal justice under law.” Consequently, House Republicans must marshal all the available evidence to prosecute and hold accountable the seditious anti-Trump conspirators at a minimum in the court of public opinion.
